Wolfgang Karl Härdle’s research focuses on multivariate methods in finance, as well as on dimension reduction techniques and computer-based statistics. He is the founder of the BRC Blockchain Research Center and the creator of the Q2 ecosystem (Quantlet and Quantinar), designed to enhance academic exchange, research visibility, and overall quality. He led the Collaborative Research Center CRC649 “Economic Risk” (2005–2016), addressing global risk dynamics, and directed the Sino-German Research Training Group IRTG1792 “High Dimensional Non-Stationary Time Series” (2013–2023).

Professor Härdle is widely recognized for paradigm-shifting research directions, particularly in machine learning and explainable AI. He is a Yushan Fellow (since 2019) in Taiwan and the creator of CRIX – the Cryptocurrency Index. He serves as Senior Advisor to multiple Asian universities and is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Digital Finance. Additionally, he founded the Institute for Digital Assets (IDA) at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (theIDA.net) and leads the blockchain working group within the MSCA “DIGITAL” initiative.

He is also a board member of AIFM Royalton Partners (Luxembourg) and a Huawei Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh. Professor Härdle holds the highest Google Scholar impact at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, with an H-index of 94. According to research.com, he is recognized as a leading scholar in mathematics, economics, and finance.
